with Walker Sands.
Craig Schattner has been a media relations specialist and assistant
account executive for Walker Sands since November 2006. He has worked
closely, in some variation, with over 15 clients, either gaining
media visibility, coordinating and copywriting a major technical
pamphlet, or planning a media event for an international fashion
retailer, among other activities. His writing expertise has contributed
to the success of pitches across multiple industries and helped
foster relationships with many prominent local and international
journalists.
A magna cum laude graduate from the University of Michigan Honors
program, Craig has stretched his English degree to include a multitude
of writing disciplines, including: ghostwriting, pitching, copywriting,
technical writing, and the all-important press release.
Over the past several years, Craig has been building his public
relations and general communications skills through various positions.
Prior to Walker Sands, Craig was an integral player in the press
office of the Peace Corps, maintaining and bolstering the organization’s
strong image in its 45th year of existence. With his help, the Peace
Corps reached a 30-year high in applications and enrollment.
Craig was also employed with the IT firm RS Information Systems,
Inc., charged with the creation, layout, content, and distribution
for the company’s first internal newsletter. It was for RSIS
that he gained his first experience in event planning, attracting
the highest turnout for an office event since the company’s
inception.
In addition to his communications work, Craig was one of the first
reporters to join the popular Asia Times – DC, a metropolitan
newspaper that catered to the Asian population in the District of
Columbia and its surrounding communities. He covered features stories
ranging from taboo interracial topics to the first American concert
held by L’Arc~en~Ciel, a Japanese pop band whose popularity
roughly equaled N’Sync in its heyday.
